Optical Fibre Sensors and Devices

Our group develops a variety of innovative optical fibre devices and sensors. We go from the study of fundamental physics to the development of ruggedised portable units which include electronics/data analysis and are field deployable.
Sustainability and Resilience Institute (SRI)

We bring together colleagues from across the University, and work with experts from around the world to answer one of the most pressing questions of our time: “How will we choose to manage our planet for ourselves and future generations?”
Distributed Optical Fibre Sensing

We design and develop novel optical fibre sensors capable of measuring temperature, strain, and vibration at thousands of points using a single strand of optical fibre. Such sensors have applications in wide range of fields from aerospace and civil engineering to geophysical sciences.
