Steven Vidovic is the Head of Open Research & Publication Practice at the University of Southampton Library, where he leads initiatives to advance open access and best practices in research and scholarly communication. Committed to fostering transparent and inclusive research, Steven works with colleagues and stakeholders to develop strategic approaches that enhance the accessibility and impact of academic outputs. He also leads the Library’s bibliometrics team, supporting responsible research assessment, and applies his research skills to metaresearch.
Steven is the Institutional Lead for the UK Reproducibility Network and Project Lead for the Sharing & Integrating initiative within the UKRN Open Research Programme, overseeing the development of the ukrn-openresearch.ac.uk sharing platform. He is the former Chair of the DOAJ Advisory Group and has served in advisory roles for Jisc, UKRI, REF, NIHR, and RLUK.
In addition to his work in open research, Steven maintains an active research interest in vertebrate palaeontology and systematics. His focus is on improving the reproducibility of cladistic methods used to estimate evolutionary trees, employing stepwise approaches to replicate and enhance analyses. He also explores methods for comparing dendrograms by evaluating node and branch similarity.
