  • Sian Campbell (as Co-I) has been awarded the EPSRC EDI HUB+ Evaluation grant, valued at 拢29,732. The project is led by Prof Averil McDonald and will evaluate the impact of Chair training on the experience of females, minority groups, neurodiverse people, and ECRs
  • Elina Meliou and Mina Beigi have had their proposal for a funded PhD accepted by the Programme for Interdisciplinary Resilience Studies (PIRS): . The project, titled 鈥淲hen Resilience Is a Must, Not a Choice: Navigating Precarious Blue-Collar Work and Mental Health in the UK鈥, will be conducted in collaboration with Prof. Nisreen Alwan from Public Health.
  • Mina Beigi received the Academy of Management Careers Division Mid-Career Scholar Award in 2025
  • Yehuda Baruch received the Hughes Lifetime Career Scholar Award in 2024. This is the most prestigious award of the Careers Division of the Academy of Management which honours scholars who have made a significant contribution to careers research.

  • Jane Parry has joined a team of subject representatives based in the UK Parliaments to act as bridges between the research community and national policy-makers to enhance the quality of the evidence that informs decision-making in Parliament. She is Parliament鈥檚 first Thematic Research Lead on Business, Economics and Trade. This initiative is part of a major investment by UKRI to ensure that the UK鈥檚 cutting-edge research base informs the policy process, and Jane will be based in Parliament for 3 days a week between 2024-2026.
  • Trang Gardner, Jane Parry, Peter Rodgers (University of Southampton Business School) and Brian Harcs (School of Geography and Environmental Science) with two international Early Career Researchers, Dr Minh Tran at the University of Da Nang (Vietnam) and Dr Sajeda Pervin at the University of Southampton (Malaysia campus) were successful in their bid for ODA International Interdisciplinary Research Projects 2024 by the British Academy. This cross-institutional and interdisciplinary project brings together the expertise of the excellent research team in entrepreneurship, management, sociology and geography to offer valuable insights into the lived experiences of female entrepreneurs in three ODA-recipient countries Bangladesh, Malaysia and Vietnam. The funded project will advance the research in entrepreneurship and management, knowledge exchange, and practice and policy for welfare and economic development in the studied countries. Furthermore, during and beyond the lifetime of this project, the team will work with the British Academy to provide and invest in the opportunities for early career researchers based in the UK and internationally to extend their networking and to work in the international interdisciplinary research.

  • Yi-Ling Lai secured funding from the Fountain Centre Charity for a project titled 鈥淎n investigation into the Fountain Centre organisational culture in cancer care 鈥(November 2024-February 2025)
  • Yi-Ling Lai and Yizhen Lu secured funding from the University Forum Human Resource Development Research Honoraria on 鈥淭he relationship between coaching supervision and internal coaches鈥 role conflict: A new insight into future HRD鈥.
  • Denise Baden received the Environmental Biotechnology network sponsorship for a short story prize for Green Stories competition https://www.greenstories.org.uk/short-story-competition-theme-microbes-deadline-sept-23/
  • Mina Beigi was awarded CD 66000.00 for a collaborative project entitled 鈥楥areer Challenges and Strategies of LGBT+ Immigrants in Canada鈥 by The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) (2023-2025)
  • Yehuda Baruch received a Research grant by La-Trobe Internal Investment Scheme, for 鈥淓thnic diversity and women leadership in the Australian corporate sector: Successes and challenges鈥 in 2023 (Co-Investigator): Aust$25,000 =~ 拢15,000
  • Sian Campbell captured HEIF funding of 拢20,750 and 拢24k from CTD Sustainable Infrastructure Systems to develop and deliver Sell Your Place, an enterprise education programme for schools and colleges.
  • Sian Campbell as awarded 拢750 from the ESRC to run Make Your Place as part of the Festival of Social Sciences.
  • Sian Campbell won a bid for 拢12,000 to Endometriosis UK to evaluate the impact of a women鈥檚 well-being intervention programme in SMEs.
  • Tahir Nisar received 拢35,590 from HEIF to conduct research on 鈥楧eploying AI Technologies for Business Value: Opportunities and constraints鈥.
  • Jane Parry and Michalis Veliziotis were awarded 拢19,622 by the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas) to conduct organisational case studies on post-pandemic flexible working to inform the development of their Code of Practice for employers. The work for this was carried out in the period September 22 to August 23.
  • Jane Parry and Peter Rogers were awarded 拢707 from FOSS to run a workshop in the ESRC Festival of Social Science on 鈥榊oung People, Volunteering and Employability鈥, in collaboration with UoS careers service and Student Hub.
  • COVID-19 focused projects: NHS ambulance performance in the NW (Peter Rodgers); dual-earner parents during lockdown (Mina Beigi); impact of COVID-19 on French managers & executives (Yehuda Baruch)
  • the Department was awarded a UKRI/ESRC grant in their funding call for ideas that respond to COVID-19, for the project Work after Lockdown (PI Jane Parry; Co-I Yehuda Baruch; Co-I Mina Beigi; Co-I Michail Veliziotis; partnering with the Institute for Employment Studies and Half the Sky: 拢214,820)
  • a KTP funded by UKRI/Innovate UK looking at gamification, agent motivation & job design (Tahir Nisar) with Execview, a London-based software provider firm that works with the public sector
  • research funded by the CIPD investigating the relationship between HR practice and the self-employed (David Cross)
  • a project funded by the Arts Council England that explores new leadership and entrepreneurial career pathways in the arts (拢585,284); this is a collaboration between The Point Theatre, Southampton Business School and cultural organisations in the south of England (Co-I @ HRM & OB, Professor Yehuda Baruch)
  • Denise Baden, Professor of Sustainable Business has developed her ESRC work on sustainability in the hairdressing curriculum by working with Green Salon Collective and brands such as Henkel, Wella, Davines and L鈥橭r茅al to embed more sustainable practices across the hair and beauty sector (www.ecohairandbeauty.com)
  • Ai Yu received 拢12,289.60 from the Web Science Institute at UoS to conduct a pilot project on relational accountability in using AI for immigration and refugee decision-making
  • Naveena Prakasam, together with colleagues in the University of Sheffield, Northumbria University, and University of West of England, won 拢20, 190 to research ecosystem enablers: supporting individuals and communities of researchers
